About jenew

jenew started this conversation
I am a single parent of 6 boys.  I have been raising my boys for the past 6 years on my own.  I work 2 jobs just to make ends meet and do not recieve any child support.  I have come across some problems with my vehicle when it suddenly overheated.  Turns out I had a hole in my radiator.  I had the radiator replaced and the problem still exists.  I took the vehicle back to the mechanic who informed me that I needed new head gaskets.  I got two quotes, one for 1750.00 the other for 1222.00.  I have $400 to fix it with and that doesn't even cover parts.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I really can't afford to miss any work and want to be self sufficient.

Hi

Schmidty gave great advice. Out in CA there we went to junkyards that had old cars for parts and I found a similar one for you where you live.

I did a search for car parts...

hope this helps too

Did you need the radiator? Or was it the heads? If it wasn't the radiator the mechanic should reimburse your money and put your old radiator back on. His mistake.

If it was the case of having a hole in the radiator and because of running out of water you damaged your heads, looks like you have no choice. Unless

you go to http://Schmidty.Aidpage.com , http://soulight.aidpage.com , and http://starshine.aidpage.com to see if there are any free vehicles in your area so that you can replace it.

You can also put free cars in your search engine and see what it comes up with. It would show some in your area, or it should.

Hope this helps. Good luck and God Bless

Reply to Jenew:--Couldn't help overhear your advice to Anora, and my husband builds cars from the frame up as well as finds used parts for his buddies. The first place he always goes is the car junk yard, where workers disasemble allthe old junkers and keep all the good functioning parts and sell them for about 30 cents on the dollar, she could pick up a overhauled radiator for about $30 dollars or less. Just look in "Used CAR ParTS  or Auto Junk cars and parts. Hope this helps as like you said radiators are very easy to come by. Sincerely sheshe030

Jenew-

I can certainly relate to car issues! My suggestion is that you start calling around and inquiring about "rebuilt radiators". When I had this issue years ago someone shared with me that this is actually cost effective because generally the new radiator will outlive the car, so doing it this way you're cutting the cost, but still getting the engine life out of your car. They seem to work just as well as a new one. The link I've provided is a list of those autoplaces in your city, but you'll have to do a bit of phone work to call them and see who offers rebuilt ones. Be honest, tell them you don't have a lot of money to spend and you're a single parent of 6. You'll be surprised that you'll eventually find a good hearted mechanic who will help you out.

Namaste-Anora
